Claire Bollier Thayer, Vice President, Business Development, has been with MCOL since its inception. Ms. Thayer has overall responsibility for MCOL content, business development, partner and major client relationships and additional general management responsibilities. Ms. Thayer has an extensive background in managed care, with management expertise from the provider’s perspective.

Prior to joining MCOL in 1995, Ms. Thayer spent 4 years as a healthcare consultant with her own firm.  Her areas of expertise were state and federal regulatory filings for HMO expansions; operational reviews and systems analysis in the areas of claims and provider contracting, market research and feasibility studies, and preparation of requests for proposals for state and local companies and agencies.

From 1983 to 1992 Ms. Thayer held increasingly responsible management positions in healthcare. She held management positions in a private practice office and at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles before taking a position at Pacific Medical Center in Seattle, Washington where she was previously the Director of Patient Accounts & Business Services. Pacific Medical Center is a large ambulatory group practice with six clinic locations serving a large managed care patient base.  Ms. Thayer was responsible for all aspects of patients accounts and business service functions which included billing, collections, insurance counseling, registration, pricing, charity care, training, automated accounts management and quality improvement initiatives.  In this position, it was her primary responsibility to operationalize managed care contracts for all six locations to ensure that contract obligations were met, customers were satisfied and reimbursement was received in an accurate and timely manner.  Her experiences in these settings gave her a wealth of knowledge in managed care operations from the provider’s perspective.  In addition, her analytical and problem-solving capabilities provide strong support for MCOL’s research and development function.

Ms. Thayer earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences at California State University, Chico.
